Smarter Home Updates

Happy 2020 to everyone!! Ty and I pray this year will be full of blessings for your family!! This post is delayed, for that I am sorry. Without further ado, here it is. I remember when Ty and I were first married we updated some lighting in our first home and installed ceiling fans...with remotes! In our current home our bedroom fan/light has a remote and it's so handy.  Recently I had been looking into smarter home solutions and such.  I'm super excited to have light switches on our main floor that connect to our wifi and I can turn lights on and off from my phone. Even when I'm not home! We scored our first set of dimmable switches from a local store and paid only $5 for the set of 4 switches! Yay! We purchased more switches from the major online store with 2 day shipping that do not dim for our kitchen and front porch light.  Ty was able to install all the switches himself, and no, I didn't get any photos of that to share.  For our family's Christmas gift we

There's A Light in the Attic... and all our junk. Although our house is somewhat spacious, it lacks in storage...or maybe we have too much junk. It would be ideal. However....half of our basement is finished and the othe

Bamboozled

Time heals most wounds.  I will start with the exciting news that Ty and I had decided to NOT DIY this ONE project and instead decided to hire out the job of having someone install roughly 800 sq. ft. of solid strand bamboo wood flooring.  This stuff is HARD and dulls a saw blade FAST. Plus, that's a LOT of square footage to try to DIY with 3 kids and 3 dogs running around.  We decided to let someone else handle this project. Were we wrong on this one!  Let's start with a photo tour of the bad.  Ty and his dad and a friend of ours worked for 2 days to remove the parquet flooring in our entry and dining room.  Our agreement with the installer was that we would do as much as we could of the tear out to help save costs.  Our installer, let's call him...Mel, said that was fine and his guys would take care of the carpet since it was just pulling it up.  Well...We did the kitchen, the dining room and a big part of the entryway. My friend Michele and I did the small &
