Outdoor Flea Markets in KS

Image
As many know, we love a GOOD junk sale! The more junk the better! Previously posted in our Found it! page, there is one Flea Market we never miss! Sparks, KS and White Cloud, KS outdoor flea markets are my favorite in our region! The sales are only twice a year and this past weekend Ty and I took to the road and ventured our way through the treasures. I didn't take pictures this year. I was focused, maybe too focused.  Our weekend started on Thursday and on the heels of a big storm the night before. Several of our favorite vendors were not there on Thursday and many vendors encountered damage from the winds, so sad to see the vendors picking up broken glass and trying to salvage their wares.  Trash bins were filled with broken canopies and other discarded display pieces.  We had spent that previous night in our basement listening to tornado warnings.  Our hearts went out to those vendors who suffered from the storm. Thankful there was no tornados and nothing...

Fiddling Around

Ahh, spring is in the air! Windows are open and the kids are playing outside which means, I can blog a bit more than I have in the past few months.  Our next project is quite the unique thing.  Ty thought it would be fun to build himself a violin that's a bit more unique than the ones you find everywhere else.  He made this one from an old cigar box and part of an old broken violin. Let's take a look!!  The details here will be vague. Until Ty can help me a bit more. ;)   Ty started with a broken violin, a cigar box, and some other misc. pieces.  Ty added some length to the box and drew the shape of the instrument so it would have the right fit and feel while playing. Next using this lid as a template to get the curves just right a violin needs curves in all the right places. placed a repurposed fingerboard Attached the fingerboard from a discarded violin           ...

Ghost of Valentines Day Past

This is digging out some old photos from Feb. 2009.  However, it goes to show that Ty and I have been working hard making our house our home for many years.  This project is something that I had wanted so I had a place to store and work on my crafts and scrapbooking.  I wanted to turn a junk filled closet into a functional space for me to work and keep my things in one place instead of dragging it all out from the closet to the dining room every time I wanted to scrapbook.  This bedroom closet is in our kids play room, my thought was that I could work on my projects while our oldest played.  At the time I was expecting our second child so my involvement was 'limited'.  We started by taking out all the wire shelving, you know the kind, white non-functional Empty and freshly painted After it was painted & dry Ty started taking measurements and we talked about how I wanted the shelves and workspace.  I wanted it tall enough to ...

Light of my Living Room

Image
Through our adventures Ty and I find we disagree on very few things.  After being married for over 13 years he knows my style and I know his. We tend to find our common ground easily. New Lamps were on my list of making our living room more interesting. I have found so many beautiful lamps. I send a pic to Ty, he doesn't like.  So I move on. Ty finds lamps he likes, I don't.  I figure we have to find something we both like...eventually.  So after months of looking, shopping online, etc. we decide to just make our own.  The material of choice was copper piping.  It amazes me how much piping we have bought for decorative purposes! Our lamps turned out a bit taller than I expected and again, I apologize for not having progress pictures and how we did it explanations.   I was not anticipating writing a blog about these things at the time.  We have talked about doing more to the lamps like aging the copper more or changing the shape o...

One Thing Leads to Another

As Ty and I have changed things in our home over the past 8.5 years, we have found a style we both can agree on.  The most recent change this winter included the purchase of a new couch and chair this just before Christmas! What a fun time to get new furniture!! The couch we purchased at a large store not too far away and the chair we purchased online.   With 3 kids and pets we needed something durable, comfortable and not ugly.  We choose a leather sectional in the color graphite.  It was a floor sample and for the life of me I can not remember what the brand is. Maybe one day I'll remember and update.   The chair is black distressed leather with stainless sides!  It looks very much like a chair we found at a high end "hardware" store.  I love it! We are still on the hunt for another chair for another part of the living room, maybe a chaise lounger!    Here's where the DIY comes in: Like any good redecorating...
